NOISE CAMP

Calling all campers!!! Time Stereo presents PDM's 11th Annual NOISE CAMP, this summer on SATURDAY, AUGUST 13, 2005. Just like previous years, young campers can play the PENGUIN TOSS and THE WATERMELON RACE, older campers can eat HOT DOGS from over a real fire and drink some "muddy water" from a "hollow log", and everybody will sing-along with the folk singer at 11pm (Aliccia from Slumber Party)!!! There's a CRAFTS TABLE, FREE CAMP HAIRCUTS, CAMP NURSES and a PHOTO BOOTH to keep everybody busy with entertainment provided by this years all-noise lineup: PRINCESS DRAGON-MOM, AARON DILLOWAY (WOLF EYES), COTTON MUSEUM, HIVE MIND, NIKO, and ODD CLOUD. If you love harsh electronic noise in a tent on a moonlit summer night, you must come to NOISE NOISE CAMP!!!

Noise Camp is an annual free outdoor event, similar in spirit to the 4th Street Fair, Woodward Dream Cruise, Downtown Hoedown, Freedom Festival, Thanksgiving Parade, and the Devil's Night Arson Spree. It all started 11 years ago... Davin Brainard was a counselor at a real kids camp and planned on making documentary audio recordings of the children playing and singing, but when the children saw the red recording light go on, they spontaneously grabbed the microphone and took turns screaming at the top of their lungs!!! That tape resulted in one of the TIME STEREO label's most popular recordings, "NOISE CAMP - REAL KIDS, REAL NOISE." At that time (1994) Davin was a member of the noise group PRINCESS DRAGON-MOM, well known in the Detroit area for its Actionist live performances. PD-M decided to take NOISE CAMP to the stage, to recreate the sights and sounds of the natural world and of the hundreds of screaming children in an otherwise urban environment. THEY SAID IT COULDN'T BE DONE!!! The live performances of NOISE CAMP frequently included the ELECTRIC BEAR- a cardboard bear duct taped to an old microphone stand that makes harsh electronic noise when heavily amplified, and THE TREE VS THE BUSH - a guy in a cardboard tree suit beating the crap out of a guy in a cardboard bush suit. Eleven years later, Noise Camp is an international success, having toured Japan, Europe, and the USA, and having held ten years of noise camps in Detroit. Last year's Ten Year Anniversary Noise Camp was the most popular yet, with hundreds of campers coming from all over the world!!!
